Forshortened for this picture, this double pendulum unit compares the periods of two drilled steel balls with individual string lengths up to 80cm. The novel mount fastens to a ring stand and allows the length to be easily changed while the bob is swinging. Qualitative studies of period, frequency and beats are within reach of younger students. A stop watch is required to examine these ideas quantitatively.
