Angular Momentum Apparatus.

Angular Momentum Apparatus.

Angular Momentum Apparatus.

This Angular Momentum Apparatus is a triple threat! The masses on this demonstrator are removable, allowing for a greater range of demonstrations than the one or two mass rods currently on the market. The rod may be used with one of the movable masses to demonstrate a center of gravity paradox, where the rod is easier to balance with the mass extended to the far end of the rod and balanced up in the air by the student. With two of the masses placed on the rod, angular momentum can be "felt" by rotating the rod with the masses near the center, and then apart on the ends. This helps to understand the classic "ice skater's spin". With three masses on the rod, students can mathematically calculate the necessary positions of the masses to allow the center of gravity to be determined at a given point. This helps students to visualize counterbalance. This is a hands-on way to introduce the concepts of the center of gravity, angular acceleration and moment of inertia. Instructions include theory.
