Many of your students have flown in airplanes, or know someone who has. Few, if any of them, understand the principles of lift.

The idea that an object denser than air can fly is so difficult to grasp that many people initially thought the Wright Brothers had pulled a hoax! Even today, all of the principles of lift and aerodynamic flow are not completely understood.

By and large, lift works because Bernouli's Principle requires a partial vacuum to form over the wing of an airplane. This means greater pressure is under the wing, forcing it upwards.</p> <p>With our wind tunnel and a accurate balance, you can clearly see the effect of lift in action. Activate the unit, and the apparent weight of the airfoil will decrease.
